*Providing a safe environment for our daughters to study fearlessly is our shared responsibility: Chief Minister*

Raipur, September 13, 2026/ Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai has taken cognizance of reports of alleged mistreatment of girl students at the Eklavya Residential School in Bijapur district, directing District Collector Shri Vishwadeep and the Superintendent of Police to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter and take strict action as per rules.

The Chief Minister directed that action be taken without delay based on the facts that emerge from the investigation. He said accountability must also be fixed for any official found to have ignored, suppressed or delayed action on the complaint at any level.

Placing the highest priority on the safety of girls studying in residential schools and hostels across the state, Shri Sai directed all district collectors and superintendents of police to regularly inspect girls’ hostels, ashrams and residential schools operating in their districts. He also directed them to review whether prescribed safety protocols, the regular presence of superintendents and other responsible staff, campus security arrangements, and mechanisms for redressal of children’s complaints are being fully complied with. He said no compromise would be accepted on the safety and dignity of children. Any complaint relating to misconduct, harassment or an unsafe environment must be treated with complete seriousness and sensitivity, with immediate action ensured.

The Chief Minister said residential schools and hostels are not merely places of study for children but are like their homes, and that parents send their children to these institutions in good faith. Protecting that trust, he said, is the responsibility of every official and employee associated with the government, administration and the institution. He added that children must be provided with a safe, fear-free and dignified environment under all circumstances.

He told officials that the system should not be limited to acting only after a complaint is received in matters concerning children. Instead, a mechanism should be developed to identify and prevent such situations in advance through regular inspections, continuous dialogue and effective monitoring. He said school and hostel management must also be clearly told that any indifference towards children’s safety would be taken seriously.

The Chief Minister directed district collectors and superintendents of police to ensure that, upon receiving any complaint of misconduct, harassment or intimidation of girls, the concerned department and police administration take immediate action in coordination with each other. He also directed that counselling and other necessary support be provided to affected students wherever required.

“Providing a safe environment so that our daughters can study and move forward fearlessly, fulfil their dreams and build their futures is our shared responsibility. The safety, respect and dignity of children are paramount in every residential school and hostel in the state. No one responsible for negligence in this regard will be spared,” the Chief Minister said.
